Due to the preparation of specific infrastructures for roll-on, roll-off trading, in the 80's, Pasaia became the most important car-exporting harbour of Spain. Later, the importation of vehicles consolidated Pasaia as a particularly appropriate harbour for this kind of trade.

From 1980 until these days, more than 4 million vehicles have been loaded and unloaded in the Pasaia Port. Thanks to that and to the speed and the safety in the rotation of the units, Pasaia is one of the favourite ports of many manufacturers.

The exclusive areas for the movement and storage of cars in Pasaia take a total area of 170,000 square metres. Ninety thousand of them belong to the new three-story silo (garage - warehouse), which opened in 2006. Thanks to that new equipment, Norwegian shipping company UECC is able to export or import up to 600,000 vehicles a year, opposite the 320,000 it exported/imported before. Therefore, it means it has doubled its performance.
