We must emphasise that the documents on the Natura 2000 Network, published by the European Commission and the Ministry of Environment, state that "the goal of the NATURA 2000 Network is not to create sanctuaries of nature, where all kinds of human activity are systematically prohibited. The adopted measures (according to the European Directive that develops it) will take into account the economic, social and cultural requirements, as well as the regional and local features'.
However, and as a result of the performances projected regarding the integral regeneration of the Pasaia bay, through the construction of the external port, there will probably be significant effects on the various variables of both the terrestrial and the sea surroundings. |
In order to avoid or minimise those effects, cautionary and correcting measures will be activated in the various stages of the works, as well as a follow-up of its effectiveness during the operation stage.
All the measures applied in the field of the ES2120017 Jaizkibel SCI will be compatible with the objectives regarding the preservation of the space, and will guarantee, at least, the maintenance of the habitats of community interest and of the habitats of species of community interest, according to article 6 of the Habitats Directive. |
