1. Middle Ages
The production of the foundries of the area and the wool from Navarre used to be loaded in the Pasaia Bay, while they unloaded grain and manufactures from Europe. 2. XIVth - XVIth centuries
Pasaia was one of the strategic harbours of the Crown, as well as a very important construction centre, a preparation base and the Army's hideout in the Ocean. The offshore fishing ships had their winter port and a great centre of supplies, repair and fabrication there.
3. XVIth century
The fishing expeditions to Newfoundland had its main base in Pasaia, as it was the only port with all the necessary conditions.

4. XVIIIth century
The Pasaia Port had an important role in sea trade, especially during the XVIIIth century, when it was the base of the Real Compañía Guipuzcoana de Caracas.
5. Modern Era
Due to the greater institutionalisation of the near port of San Sebastian, Pasaia specialised in all the tasks regarding naval construction.
6. XXth century
Due to the spectacular increase of the offshoring and deep-sea fishing fleet, it became the main codfish harbour of the State.
